Community Gathering in Support of Hugo Mejia and California Immigrants Day

  • Rodef Sholom 170 North San Pedro Road San Rafael, CA, 94903 United States (map)

WHERE:  Rodef Sholom, 170 No. San Pedro Road, San Rafael (across the street from Venetia Valley School - please park in the Venetia Valley parking lot)

WHO:  Congressman Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) and other speakers from the community

WHY:  We are gathering to urge the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to release San Rafael resident Hugo Mejia from the ICE Center where he is currently being held, and provide him with his rights to due process. The event is being co-hosted by Congregation Rodef Sholom.

The community support for Mr. Mejia has been overwhelming - thank you!  A grassroots petition has generated thousands of signatures and Venetia Valley School and Rep. Huffman’s office are being flooded with calls and letters supporting the family and asking that Hugo receive a hearing before a judge and that he not undergo expedited deportation. The letters show Mr. Mejia has been an exemplary father, neighbor, employee, member of the community and they include countless stories demonstrating his commitment to family, education, community and friends. This gathering falls on California Immigrant Day -- an annual day of advocacy to champion immigrants' rights and celebrate their important contributions to our community.
