The Silent March is a quiet walk, rain or shine on March 23rd. RSVP online We encourage people to wear black or white. Some participants will bring Dixie District memorabilia and financial donations for the Old Dixie Schoolhouse Museum, a non-profit organization which indicates that the school district was named after the Confederacy during the Civil War.
The first Silent Parade was held in 1917 in New York City to protest violence against African-Americans. It was the first mass demonstration by African-Americans in the United States. Some parade members wore all-white symbolizing the innocence of African-American victims of violence. Others wore dark suits to convey dignity, determination and solemnity.
Time and Place: The Silent March starts at 10:30 am sharp and ends at 11:30 am. The Silent March departs from Miller Creek Middle School, 2255 Las Gallinas, San Rafael, CA and ends at Mary E. Silveira School, 375 Blackstone Dr. The length of the parade is 0.7 miles.
