We have a great program planned for our January meeting!

In an update from the Electoral Team, we will hear lead Susan Bolle speak about the Electoral Strategy for 2022. Learn about the upcoming midterms and get the big picture overview of national and regional redistricting, where the critical races are occurring and how we can achieve essential victories in swing states.

In the second part of our meeting, we’ll have a fascinating look from “Inside Airlift'' where we learn the nut and bolts about how Airlift works and why it has become a massively successful sister project to MVCAN; Airlift raised more than $350,000 in 2021 for direct support to grassroots groups in swing states. SUPPORT LOW INCOME HOUSING IN GREENBRAE

January 2022 is HUGE for housing in Marin. Here are events where YOUR support can make the difference…

You have the opportunity to provide input on the proposed Homekey project in Greenbrae that would provide 43 units of permanent supportive housing for the formerly unhoused.

The County of Marin and Episcopal Community Services (ECS) will co-host an online forum to discuss the proposed Project Homekey site at 1251 S. Eliseo in Larkspur.

The first half of the meeting will provide a comprehensive project overview, including addressing the most frequently asked questions from past community meetings.

The second half of the meeting will be dedicated to questions and comments from attendees. We encourage you to state your support and ask positive, useful questions about the proposal. It is especially important for Larkspur and Greenbrae residents to speak up.

SUPPORT HOUSING EXPANSION IN MILL VALLEY - ATTEND WORKSHOP WITH MILL VALLEY CITY PLANNERS

Wednesday, Feb 16 - 6:30pm

In a victory for advocates striving to make housing in California more equitable and affordable, Gavin Newsom recently signed historic legislation that essentially eliminates single-family zoning across the state of California. SB9 (Atkins) will allow up to four dwellings (as many as two duplexes or two houses with attached units) to be built on almost any lot currently zoned for a single-family residence.

The new California state law now requires that municipalities, including Mill Valley, come up with plans to meet a specific portion of the regional need for expanded housing at various income levels. These plans will be based on factors such as future population, access to jobs and other criteria. Future housing needs will, to a significant degree, be met by zoning for expanded housing, including a modest increase in housing density. This expansion of housing supply will cause market forces to counter the imbalance between supply and demand, stabilizing or lowering rapidly rising housing costs. In addition, major improvements in greenhouse emissions will result by making public transportation more feasible and shortening car commutes.

To meet the new state requirements, the City of Mill valley must submit an 8-year plan, known as the Housing Elements component of the City General Plan, to the state later this year. Commendably, Mill Valley city staff are holding a series of public meetings on Zoom to get input from the community. These workshops provide us a great opportunity to make a real difference by making our values and vision for our city known.

The Mill Valley Housing Advisory Committee will host its third Housing Element workshop to focus on possible strategies that the City can use as part of identifying land or parcels to make room for new homes in the community. It is important for pro-housing advocates who desire more economic and racial justice, and reduced greenhouse gasses o make their voices heard at the meetings. Regrettably, there are many vocal, single-family home owners who resist any virtually change to their neighborhoods regardless of the short- and long-term benefits to their communities.

We need to speak up!
