Guest Speaker: Andy Bindman, MD

Our special guest speaker will be Andrew B. Bindman, Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology & Biostatistics at UCSF and a nationally known health policy expert.

Dr. Bindman will provide a framework for thinking about different federal and state health care proposals, and of course, he will be available to answer our questions.

Here are some points Dr. Bindman will cover:

  • The positions that candidates for national office are taking with regard to health insurance coverage.

  • Various approaches (statutory, regulatory, and judicial) used to alter the federal role in health insurance coverage.

  • California’s potential for creating its own health insurance policies, as well as the state’s limitations.

TWO CHANCES TO SHOW UP FOR MILL VALLEY CLIMATE STRIKE - Friday, Dec 6

On December 6th, as world leaders gather at the UN’s annual climate conference, young people across America will join a national #ClimateStrike to take the momentum from September to our elected officials’ doorsteps.  

MVCAN members participated in similar events in Mill Valley in September, which were so successful and inspiring!

MVCAN is highlighting two local activities in support of the Climate Strike:

First Event:

Mill Valley Depot Plaza Strike Gathering
Friday, Dec 6, 11 am - 1pm
87 Throckmorton Ave.

The Mill Valley Depot Plaza gathering will be a show of support for the climate strike, where adults can join in with the kids. Bring your lunch, a chair, and most importantly, a sign. All ages and schools are welcome.

Second Event:

Seniors for Peace
Friday, Dec 6, 3 - 5 pm
Redwoods Senior Living
40 Camino Alto, (corner of Camino Alto and Miller) Mill Valley

All Community members are welcome to join in and support Seniors for Peace and students from Tam High School.

“NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW” RALLY ON EVE OF IMPEACHMENT VOTE - SIGN UP NOW TO BE NOTIFIED!

Impeachment is here!

The night before the House of Representatives takes a historic vote to impeach Trump, people will be heading to every congressional office and public square to declare that “Nobody Is Above the Law” as representatives finalize their positions and senators look on.

Multiple Marin grassroots groups, including MVCAN, are hosting a joint “Nobody is Above the Law” rally - one of many, many nationwide.

TRAVEL TO PHOENIX, AZ TO CANVASS AND REGISTER VOTERS

Jan 13 - 17 and Feb 15 - 17

In October, MVCANers traveled to Arizona with a group of 40 Bay activists. They knocked on 900 - 950 doors and registered 500+ Democrats in 4 days! Arizona is one of the highest priority states to take back the Senate in 2020.

JANUARY TRIP - MONDAY 13th THRU FRIDAY 17th IN THE PHOENIX AREA:

We will be registering voters at various college campuses in the greater Phoenix area in the first week that the students are back on campus after the holiday break. We will be partnering again with “Commit to Flip Blue.” You can join the trip for a few days or the whole week. Our partners on the ground in AZ will be Field Team 6 and AZ Blue 2020.

FEBRUARY TRIP - SATURDAY 15th THRU MONDAY 17th IN THE PHOENIX AREA:

Our friends at Swing Left are planning a big Presidents’ Day weekend in the Phoenix area. The plan is to canvass and register voters for all three days of the long holiday weekend, with activists from all over the West.

BAY AREA SECOND GRASSROOTS SUMMIT

At the Bay Area Grassroots Summit, MVCAN leaders Susan Bolle and Eileen Fisher, along with grassroots leaders from around the Bay Area and Santa Cruz gathered to share ideas and discuss how to support best organizing practices. Groups attending included Democracy Action Marin, Indivisible, Sister District, Swing Left, Flip the West, OFA, Commit to Flip Blue, etc.

The featured speaker was Andrew Kim from Flip the West, who spoke about how to motivate and recruit democratic volunteers.

MVCAN AT MARIN CITY HOUSING MEETING

MVCAN members attended the Board of Supervisors/Marin Housing Authority meeting to learn about development plans for Marin City’s Golden Gate Village revitalization and to demonstrate support for the current residents.

MVCAN LEADERS ATTEND CA DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION

Susan Bolle and Sylvia Russell stand STRONG for women’s rights!

The CA Democratic Convention, which met in Long Beach, focused on voting on the CADEM Platform and endorsing Legislative and Congressional Candidates.

Highlighting the General Session were fiery speeches by Congressman Adam Schiff and Shannon Watts, Founder of Moms Demand Action.

All of Marin’s Elected Officials earned the endorsement of the CA Democratic Party.

Civil Rights/Immigration battles for justice and fair treatment of women, immigrants, working people and followers of all faiths.

Communications works on strategy, branding, messaging and program development for MVCAN. They are looking for bright ideas and people who want to make them happen.

Eco Warriors are engaged in change at the local, state and national levels, to impact the CA carbon tax, climate change, and community outreach and action.

The Economic Action team runs AIRLIFT, our first national project. AIRLIFT funnels money to grassroots groups in winnable 2018 districts. These are seriously vetted groups that work all year round in their communities–they get tangible results without blowing through millions of dollars. Read about Airlift in the Huffington Post .

Electoral The Electoral Team is still hard at work to take back our country in battleground states all over the country...preparing for next year's general election. We're canvassing, calling, texting and sending letters & postcards to defend our hard-won House seats and take back the Senate. Our team of experienced electoral volunteers will help get you started to talk to voters to make sure they are registered and ready to VOTE THEM OUT. We feature Voter Communication training and we'll coach you every step of the way. Join us to take back our country!

The Events team creates special events to engage our friends and neighbors to take political action with MVCAN.

Health Care is forging ahead after their successful fight over the repeal/replace of ACA.

Tech supports MVCAN through technology.

Women's Rights fundraises and canvasses for NARAL and Planned Parenthood; supports women in public office(s); and engages in local, state and federal legislation for women's protection and rights.
