12/28 WELCOME TO THE WEDNESDAY WAG — HOLIDAY EDITION

We are MV CAN: the Mill Valley Community Action Network. We are citizens of a democracy that is on the verge of a nervous breakdown because we are facing the installation of an extreme right wing, authoritarian government. We are here to help keep democracy alive.

Every week we are getting bigger and stronger. We are meeting we are educating ourselves, we are organizing. It is important to remember that we are not alone. Across the country, we are millions of people. There is something for everyone to do to resist Trump's policies.

…………………………………………………….

WHAT WE DID THIS WEEK:

  • In response to a question that our June Cooperman asked on camera at Jared Huffman’s Town Hall, our Congressman announced that he was not planning to be in Washington, DC for the Inaugural. To our knowledge, this is the first time he has said anything about this publicly. We are encouraging him to issue a press release and inviting him to participate in counter-inaugural activities in Marin.
  • The teams have been working through the holiday pushing on their agendas. ///Civil Rights/Immigration is supporting MLK Day events in Marin City. ///Environment/Climate Change is organizing people to attend Earth2Trump, a big event in Oakland. ///Women’s Rights is organizing people who are attending the Women’s March in San Francisco. ///The Resist Trump team is  fighting Trump’s legitimacy, working with MOCs and others; details below. ///Outreach/Communications has been working with Craig Frazier to develop a visual identity for MV CAN. It’s cool and everyone will see it on January 8th. …………………………………………………..

READY FOR ACTION:

>>>CALL DIANNE FEINSTEIN

Call Senator Diane Feinstein to express your opinion on two issues: Feinstein's office tallies calls by issue not by individual, so your call will count as two calls.

1. As ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, support her stance on opposing Jeff Sessions as nominee for Attorney General  and subjecting him to the most thorough and exhaustive confirmation hearing possible. Insist that he provide all documents necessary to thoroughly vet him (he has not provided those to date) No shortcuts for him!

2. As separate issue: Ask that the Senator to publicly announce her opposition to the four cabinet level appointees who will have great power over US environmental policy—all of them certified and certifiable climate deniers:

- Rex Tillerson, CEO of Exxon, for Secretary of State - Scott Pruitt for EPA Administrator - Ex-Gov. Rick Perry for Secretary of Energy - Rep. Ryan Zinke for Department of Interior

Feinstein SF office 415-393-0707, Wash DC: 202-224-3841 ...THANKS! ………………………………………………….

ONE LAST ITEM:

In the spirit of Edward R. Morrow and Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather steps out of the journalist’s role and tells us what we must do:

“Now is a time when none of us can afford to remain seated or silent. We must all stand up to be counted.

History will demand to know which side were you on. This is not a question of politics or party or even policy. This is a question about the very fundamentals of our beautiful experiment in a pluralistic democracy ruled by law.
