BUT FIRST, THE HIGHWAYS NEED ATTENTION

MVCAN members greet people driving into SF for the demonstrations

Before the marches, MVCAN members liberated the 101 overpass at Seminary Drive and sent messages to motorists heading into SF. People from MVCAN’s Civil Rights and Immigration Team coordinated the action on a total of 3 overpasses with United Marin Rising and Indivisible Sausalito.

GET READY TO ROCK THE CONGRESS!

It’s an all day affair of great speakers including Rep. Jared Huffman and Becky Bond, training workshops and a chance to meet some amazing activists from swing districts. A few tickets are still available. Open to all MVCAN members!

Details and registration are available here.

MVCAN ACTIONS OF THE WEEK

  1. PHONE BANK FOR SB 54 (California Values Act) - This is a critical period for getting SB 54, the "sanctuary state" bill, across the finish line in the Assembly. Attend a Phone Bank at Diane Goldman's home in Mill Valley(RSVP to dgold94941@aol.com), Wednesday, September 6 from 2:30 - 5 pm. The Courage Campaign has devised an excellent calling tool through Hubdialer.com that can be used at home to call citizens in districts where the CA Assemblymen have not committed to supporting this very necessary bill. You must bring your computer and a cell phone. If you are not able to attend on Wednesday, the campaign will have the codes available that will be posted on the Civil Rights/ Immigration Team webpage.

  2. TELL OUR ASSEMBLYMAN MARC LEVINE YOU’RE FROM MVCAN AND YOU WANT HIM TO SUPPORT THE HOUSING PACKAGE!
To date Marc Levine has been, at best, soft on his support for these bills.
CALL 916-319- 2010 or 415-479-4920 HERE’S WHAT TO SAY: I am calling to ask you to please support SB 2 (Atkins) & SB 3 (Beall) as part of the housing package legislators are taking up. SB 2 & SB 3 provide critical funding to get new, affordable developments going for families, veterans and seniors in need. Today, 1 in 3 families can’t afford their rent. And SB 2 & SB 3 are what we need to bring relief to the housing crisis hammering our community. Governor Brown and the Legislative leaders have put forward this package which includes a bond measure and a $75 fee for real estate transactions that goes towards affordable housing. For more info go to: nonprofithousing.org
    Thank You!

GET READY TO PRESSURE CONGRESS ON DACA

The President will be making a decision in the next week about DACA. If DACA is rescinded it will devastate the lives of 800,000 of our young DREAMERS. If Trump takes this terrible action, Congress will need to act in response. Please use this link that will put you through to our members of Congress and let that person know what you support DACA and urge him/her to do the same

https://www.ofa.us/stand-up-for-daca/  Or contact directly our Senators Kamala Harris (202) 224-3553), and Dianne Feinstein  (202) 224-3841, and Congressman Jared Huffman (202) 225-5161.  (from the Immigration and Civil Rights team)

DUMP TRUMP: SIGN THE PETITION TO THE MARIN BOARD OF SUPES & MARIN ELECTED OFFICIALS TO IMPEACH THE PRESIDENT

Sign Our Petition to Impeach Donald Trump
Tell your elected officials that it is time for Donald Trump to be censured and removed from office. The Case Against Trump is strong. He has put America last by promoting his self-interest over national interests; betraying our democracy, endangering the health and welfare of our middle class and most vulnerable; jeopardizing our national security, violating our constitution; and proving he is morally UNFIT to lead.

Join us and take action! Click here.  (from the Dump Trump team)

CONGRATS TO MVCAN ELECTORAL TEAM ON THEIR AMAZING PERSONAL STORY WORKSHOP

On August 19th, 35 activists attended a "Personal Story" workshop given by the Electoral Team to learn how to be more effective canvassers & phone bankers. The training focused on guiding  each attendee to build upon a story from their lives which led them to support a particular issue, e.g. health care and immigration rights. In break-outs, small groups worked with each other to refine the stories to make them more powerful. By bringing your unique personal story to a conversation with a voter it is easier to engage them about their own issues and connect more authentically.
