MVCAN ACTIONS OF THE WEEK
- PHONE BANK FOR SB 54 (California Values Act) - This is a critical period for getting SB 54, the "sanctuary state" bill, across the finish line in the Assembly. Attend a Phone Bank at Diane Goldman's home in Mill Valley(RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org), Wednesday, September 6 from 2:30 - 5 pm. The Courage Campaign has devised an excellent calling tool through Hubdialer.com that can be used at home to call citizens in districts where the CA Assemblymen have not committed to supporting this very necessary bill. You must bring your computer and a cell phone. If you are not able to attend on Wednesday, the campaign will have the codes available that will be posted on the Civil Rights/ Immigration Team webpage.
- TELL OUR ASSEMBLYMAN MARC LEVINE YOU’RE FROM MVCAN AND YOU WANT HIM TO SUPPORT THE HOUSING PACKAGE!
To date Marc Levine has been, at best, soft on his support for these bills.
CALL 916-319- 2010 or 415-479-4920 HERE’S WHAT TO SAY: I am calling to ask you to please support SB 2 (Atkins) & SB 3 (Beall) as part of the housing package legislators are taking up. SB 2 & SB 3 provide critical funding to get new, affordable developments going for families, veterans and seniors in need. Today, 1 in 3 families can’t afford their rent. And SB 2 & SB 3 are what we need to bring relief to the housing crisis hammering our community. Governor Brown and the Legislative leaders have put forward this package which includes a bond measure and a $75 fee for real estate transactions that goes towards affordable housing. GET READY TO PRESSURE CONGRESS ON DACA
The President will be making a decision in the next week about DACA. If DACA is rescinded it will devastate the lives of 800,000 of our young DREAMERS. If Trump takes this terrible action, Congress will need to act in response. Please use this link that will put you through to our members of Congress and let that person know what you support DACA and urge him/her to do the same

MVCAN ANNIVERSARY: PROFESSIONAL TALENT NEEDED
We’re making good progress with our MVCAN (Yes, it’s been almost a year!) Anniversary celebration, which will take place in November 2017.
Much of MVCAN's work is done in one of 10 action teams. Click the team name to read their latest news and find their next meeting.
The Economic Action team is here to answer the question: “Where can my money make the biggest difference?” They are focused on finding high leverage “investment opportunities” in the emerging Resistance movement. The team's recommendations will spotlight organizations that are laying the groundwork now for electoral victories in 2018 congressional races. Read more.
Electoral works to elect candidates for the 2017 state house and governor races, and other targeted races from now through the mid-term elections, following the recommendations of the flippable.org team, who are analyzing and selecting winnable races. The Electoral team uses phone banks and travel to targeted districts to talk with voters through phone calls and door-to-door canvassing, voter registration, and campaign volunteering. Read more.
Tech supports MVCAN through technology. If you have any skills/interests in website design, maintaining our mailing lists or helping out with other automation tasks we are working on, we would love to talk to you. Read more.
