MVCAN NEWS

100+ MVCAN MEMBERS PHONED AND TEXTED in 4 local phone banks and from home to save the Affordable Care Act.

See below for more actions you can take to protect the ACA.

MVCAN PARTICIPATED IN AN ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING OF THE MARIN LEADERS NETWORK, a coalition of 15+ major progressive Marin organizations who have been coordinating Resistance activities since spring. The MLN is preparing for a major Bay-Area-wide meeting Sept. 9, sponsored by Jared Huffman and other political leaders, to kick off and coordinate an electoral campaign to take back the Congress in 2018–which is key to resisting and overturning the toxic Trump-Republican agenda. Thank you Bill Jansen and Lisa Ristorucci for spearheading MVCAN's involvement in the Marin Leaders Network.

MVCAN DUMP TRUMP MEMBER DAVID DONNENFIELD TRAVELED TO SACRAMENTO to volunteer as an observer in the CA Democratic Party Review Committee Audit to help ensure the fairness of Democratic Party elections in CA. MVCAN-backed CA Dem Party Chair candidate Kimberly Ellis is still calling for a forensic audit of the election, and this audit is a precursor to Kimberly's audit, should her case move forward. Look for a report from David in the next Wag.

MEMBERS OF MVCAN'S CIVIL RIGHTS/IMMIGRATION TEAM PARTICIPATED IN A RALLY in support of Hugo Mejia and Rodrigo Nunez, San Rafael and Hayward residents respectively, who are now in their third month of being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials and denied immigration hearings. Read the team report and see photos from Dorothy McQuown.

AS REPORTED LAST WEEK, MEMBERS OF MVCAN'S ECO WARRIOR TEAM SPOKE AT THE MARIN BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING and helped convince Marin to go Deep Green by committing to Marin Clean Energy! Speakers included Grace Severtson, Bob Harlow and Daniel Heagerty's teen team, Climate Our Generation. In addition, Bob Harlow published a letter in the Marin IJ, urging Marin residents to go Deep Green. Thanks, Bob and Eco Warriors!

MVCAN MEMBER LAURA BOLES IS MENTORING A TEAM OF TAM HIGH STUDENTS to prepare them to register eligible high school students to vote in the fall.

MVCAN'S EXTENDED LEADERSHIP IS SCHEDULING A SERIES OF ORGANIZING TRAININGS throughout the summer.

WEEKLY ACTION ITEMS

ACTION 1: Our pressure worked! We now have a temporary reprieve on the repeal of the ACA. But plan on the Republican Senators coming back for another round. We need to KEEP UP THE PRESSURE!

Call key Republican senators: Stop Trumpcare

Use this easy and self-explanatory CREDO action tool to call swing Republicans to oppose the terrible health care bill:  https://act.credoaction.com/call/stop_trumpcare_rcalls2

ACTION 2: Make phone calls and send texts to protect the ACA.

We must keep the pressure up by calling swing Republicans and sympathetic voters in their districts who can directly lobby their representatives. New phone banks will be announced through the coming week.

Weds., July 5, 5:30-7:30

Home of MVCAN member Burr Leonard, Sausalito

RSVP for the July 5 phone bank.

Additional phone banks will be announced.
Please use this tool from Marin OFA to search for phone banks you can join: https://my.ofa.us/page/event/search_simple

Phone banks will be also posted on MVCAN's Facebook page as they are scheduled.

ACTION 3: FROM MVCAN's ECO WARRIORS: The Climate Mayors have spoken: "The world cannot wait – and neither will we." Support the Paris Agreement!

  1. Send this link to your mayor and city council members asking them to join the Climate Mayors by signing on to the Mayors National Climate Agenda.
  2. Then sign this to Tell the world you’re still committed to the Paris Climate Agreement.

Thank you for taking these important actions today!
