IT’S TIME TO SAVE THE ACA --- AGAIN!!!

The GOP is at it again - trying to replace the ACA with Trumpcare 3.0.

ACTION #1--HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN DO FROM HOME

TELL FOLKS IN RED STATES HOW TO CALL SENATORS ON THE FENCE

Indivisible National has a great tool for Blue State people like us to influence the key Red State senators. Access the peer-to-peer dialing tool.

You'll be prompted to call a PROGRESSIVE voter with a swing Republican Senator. With the help of the script, you'll explain how Red State constituents have the power now. You’ll ask them to call their Senator in opposition to the bill. The tool connects them to their Senator’s office.

ACTION #2--COME TO OUR PHONE BANK SATURDAY MORNING

Join the Electoral team at our phone bank/textbank Saturday, 9/23, 10:30am-12:30pm in Sausalito. We need all hands on deck to save the ACA. We'll be calling/texting voters to contact their Senators to vote against the Graham-Cassidy repeal bill. We're also calling voters in Virginia to win the VA State House: we're co-hosting with our Marin Sister District Project.

VICTORY PARADE: WE HAD A BUSY WEEK!

WE LAUNCHED AIRLIFT, OUR FIRST NATIONAL PROJECT!

Only 1% of the billions spent in politics goes to the thing that we know actually has the highest impact: long-term local organizing by trusted organizations. AIRLIFT is an online small donor platform that funnels money away from national campaign committees and towards people working their asses off all year long in battleground districts. Their work could well make the difference between winning and losing in 2018.

Here’s what Becky Bond said about AIRLIFT in the Huffington Post: “If you get depressed about the state of the [Democratic National Committee], you can raise your spirits by looking at some of the sophisticated and high impact local organizing that is happening and led nearly entirely by volunteers. Airlift is a beautiful example of what this new wave of local community-level progressive groups are capable of.”

Want to help get AIRLIFT off the ground? Here are a few simple things you can do:

TOP 5 WAYS YOU CAN HELP

1. Go the the AIRLIFT website and read the story.

2. Post about AIRLIFT on your Facebook page. Here are a few messages:

>> @airliftfund is for Democratic donors who are fed up with desperate email appeals that read like hostage notes. >> Our strategy? Many Davids. Help us buy slingshots. There are so many great frontline groups who need our help. Airlift.fund  >> “Airlift is a beautiful example of what progressive groups are capable of.” --Becky Bond, chief strategic advisor to Bernie Sanders >>

3. Like AIRLIFT at facebook.com/airliftfund

4. Text this message to your kids: Help the people on the front lines: airlift.fund  Love, Mom/Dad

5. Talk to other humans about AIRLIFT. Get them to go to the website at AIRLIFT.FUND. It tells the story in a simple, strong way.

VICTORY LAP! MVCAN-TARGETED CA BILLS THAT PASSED.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING BILLS

We won CA affordable housing bills by persuading our own Assemblyman, Marc Levine to vote in favor. He held out until the 11th hour Thursday, as one of the last 2 yea votes in the end. There were zero Assembly votes to spare. Thanks to all those who called on our featured action the last few weeks.

Sometimes we make the difference for the whole state!! Read more about SB2 and SB3 here.

NEWS FROM THE WOMEN’S RIGHTS TEAM

Both AB 569 (reproductive health non-discrimination bill for employees) and AB 41 (rape kit processing bill) have passed and are on their way to Governor Brown's desk. We believe our efforts helped this succeed.  We are small but mighty and everything counts!

NEWS FROM THE IMMIGRATION TEAM

SB54, the “California Values Act” only awaits the governor’s promised signature to become state law. This is an historic victory for immigrants and the immigration rights movement.  The act will provide some measure of protection for an estimated two million undocumented Californians, despite the last minute addition of many criminal convictions as legitimate reasons for local police to cooperate with ICE in detaining and deporting prisoners who have already served their full prison terms. Unfortunately the Mill Valley City Council failed to endorse SB54, despite the endorsement by the Marin County Board of Supervisors and repeated demands by MVCAN and other pro-sanctuary organizations.

WE ARE ONE THOUSAND!!

MVCAN has been steadily growing and we now have more than 1,000 members on both our email list  and Facebook group.

Fun factoid: More than a third of our members live outside 94941 … All are welcome! "Power in community and power in numbers!"
